When we talk about what makes a successful website, one of the themes we always come back to is fresh, up-to-date content. It keeps your visitors engaged, helps your site constantly improve, and signals to search engines that your site it active and should be ranked more highly.

But knowing you need to update your site regularly and actually making the time to sit down and do it are very different things.

Maybe you’re a procrastinator, or maybe you’re just incredibly busy running your small business. Either way, it’s easy to take the littlest excuse to put off a website refresh. But knowing how important freshness is, we wanted to make it just that much easier and more enjoyable when you log in to update your site’s content and copy.

With that goal in mind, we recently revamped our text and color editing tools to give you more flexibility and control within the sitebuilder. Why are these things important? Not only do they improve the experience of editing your website, they also help you maintain consistency across your site. This is so important for your brand and the overall look of your website.

Font Editor

In the previous version of the font editor, adjusting the size of your type was a bit of an exercise in eyeballing. And while that often works out just fine, it’s quicker and more reliable to know the actual size of the font you’re choosing. So instead of clicking the + and – buttons until the font looked right, you can choose the number size that you want. This also allows you to make sure that the text area you have on your Home page exactly matches the text area you have on your About page. Here’s how the editor looks now:

Color Picker

Unlike the font update, which involved replacing an older functionality, the updates we make to the color picker involved keeping what people liked, and adding new options to that. In our original color picker, users could drag their dropper around to pick any color in the known world. They could also key in a number code if they had one. This is very useful if you are trying to match something perfectly or get just the right shade. However, it can be a little time consuming if you just want to pick a color and go. It also make it difficult to choose the same color more than once if you don’t think to copy the color code from the first time you used it. Here’s how the color picker looked before:

For the new version, we added a palette of shades that you can quickly choose from, accessed under the “Popular” menu. This palette also records the colors you’ve used recently so you can quickly match shades when working on different parts of your website. If you want to access the old color dropper interface, just toggle over to the “Custom” side.

We’re always collecting feedback from users and testing the tools on our own to try to make our builder as intuitive and user-friendly as possible. We have a number of ideas coming down the pipeline that we look forward to sharing with you along the way. In the meantime, if you have a suggestion for something you’d like to see, just log in and contact support to let us know!
