How to add a favicon to your website

Today’s how-to tip is an oldie but a goodie. One way to make your website more personal and stand out while strengthening your brand is by adding a favicon to your website URL.

What is a Favicon?
A favicon is a small image next to the website address you see in the browser window. For example: the “W” we have for It comes in a standard size (16×16 pixels):

How to add a Favicon?

1. Create favicon.ico file
This file can be created via a regular photo editing software. If you don’t have any handy, not a problem. Search online for services that help you create a favicon. To search, just type in “favicon” into your favorite search engine. A few  sites that our users have used in the past to create theirs were :

2. Once you have the file created go to File Manager & Upload your file using the “Single File Uploader”

3. You are all Done!

NOTE: In order for your favicon to show up, the file you upload has to be named favicon.ico. Once uploaded, it might take up to 24 hours for our system to process the file and for your favicon to show up.

Until next time, happy site editing!

I have already done this and I would recommend so when you create it, the dimensions don’t need to be changed.

@Shailesh: keep in mind that there is some delay between the time you upload and the time your favicon shows up.

I followed all the directions, and the favicon.ico file appears in my File Manager, but the favicon is not working. I made the favicon about three days ago (not working), so I remade it on a different site and uploaded it yesterday (still not working).

This is great- I was getting sick of a blank white page in my browser.

It works beautifully with Google Chrome, but with IE it still shows their logo. (I still have to use IE to edit my sites, so I can resize/reposition images, copy and paste- these don’t work if I use Google Chrome!).

    Thanks heaps!
