Web Store App – updates and fixes

Today we released a few updates for the Web Store App:

Custom Question Field – Special Instruction

Site owners now have the option to add a custom question in a new field when adding a new product to the Web Store. You can choose to make it a requirement for a customer to answer prior to placing their order.

How can this feature help you?

Let’s say you sell cakes, and you want to make sure that your customers do not order anything they might be allergic to… Now you can! Get this valuable information, all while keeping your customers on the Web Store page to ensure they order and get the best service possible!

European Union – New Shipping Category

A widely requested update from our international site owners.  If you conduct a lot of business with buyers from European Union and dreaded the process of setting up multiple shipping categories for each EU country, now you don’t have to! You can now set European Union as a shipping category in your product settings.

Until next time,

Happy Site Building!

Is there an option for them to not pay shipping and handeling? Let’s say I want to have a day where there are no shipping and handeling costs if they purchase a certain amount of items. Just curious!

@Amanda: You can manually go into products and set the 2 different pricing options if your customers purchase 1 item only or several items.

Thanks for addressing my subscription request.

Had to add the date to my name as I see someone else is posting under the same name.

That’s why the favicons were so good, one could identify with the poster immediately.

lol @Ian… Yes, PLEASE Webs, bring back our profile pictures in this blog! It’s much easier to see who’s commenting. The new blog layout looks much spiffier except that it doesn’t have that feature.

@GL & @ Ian: Because of the blog set-up adding images would add an additional login screen that would be too much of a hassle for most users.

    Hi Irina,

Small favor, would it be possible to enable us customize price currency?

In the webstore apps, there is a column for us to insert number/value to determine the price of our products, however by default; all prices are set in us dollar. It will be good if it is customizable so that we can choose what currency we prefer…

    Thanks once again,

I hear what you say about adding images to the blog creating a hassle for most users.

So how about allowing us to post our image within the blog message window, that way it would only affect users like GL and myself and any others who wish to do so?

is there a way to add items to the store app and not list prices or have people to buy online? i mean something like a catolog but without the prices or online shopping. What im trying to say is that i need a way to display my products because i sell construction supplies like dirts rocks and concrete trailers….

@qpuexmexty: You can use a photo gallery and just display the items you have for sale.

SUP all? Good to see some old names here 🙂

Irina, I’ve seen a number of postings re favicons. If you dont want people to have the hassle logging on for default favicon\images to be picked up, then why not have a poor mans favicon?

For example, where the name field is, add another button, for ‘add image’. This provides the submitter to pick up a locally available image file. The downside (I’m guessing) due to the construction of the blog is that each new session the submitter would have to reload the image, but at least it offers them the choice.

This means that the image does not have to be tied back to the WEBS user’s logon credentials and therefore does not require an additional logon.

    Cheers Papa

    ..actually, an even better idea…
I see that the name field appears as a link once the blog entry is posted and I’m assuming that is as a result of the Website field URL entry.

Then surely you could do the same for an image file and that WOULD be retained across session logons as the name, email & website fields already are.

How do I get my payments if I use your Web Store to sell my music? I do not have a credit card. Just a bank account in India.

I can see that it is handy to be able to set different postage charges for different countries if you sell internationally, but what about those of us who would like to set different postage options within the same country, e.g I would like to set amounts for ordinary post, registered post and pick-up only orders, all within Australia. Are there any plans to add this sort of functionality to the web store?

Can anyone tell me what needs to be turned on in the Web Store to make the inventory feature work? We have a premium account and it has never worked in our store. After each sale, I have to manually post the items as sold and reduce the inventory to zero. From the documentation in the advertising and support this is supposed to be automatic in the premium web stores.

It’s been over a year now and it’s still not working.

@StoneArtTraders: Inventory tracking feature in the Web Store is only available for users that have Enhanced or Pro package. I see that your account has a Pro package attached. To activate Inventory tracking you can go into to edit a product, scroll to the Options part and enter In Stock quantity. Once this information is filled in, every time someone makes a purchase our system will track inventory for you. Also, did you know that as a Pro user you can go to our live chat support for assistance?

agree with XModz those pricing options would help out majorly – also the option to have more than one drop down field for options (ie – one drop down for sizes, one drop down for colors, etc – at least adding one more will help a bunch to tame my list of 36 option combos for each product… love love webs.com and will continue to use them for my clients website development!

Irina, Your reply is appreciated and I know it is offered in genuine sincerity. I’ve been with Webs a little over a year and have used every method of support available (including Haroon’s blog) to get my webstore and shopping cart fixed to no avail. I’ve used live chat (just last week) but still no fix. The chat CSR was helpful and sent a request to engineering but my shopping cart is still messed up and my inventory feature still does not work.

I have set inventory limits in the options field on all items since I first set up the store. The feature simply does not work in my store. It’s supposed to reduce inventory incrementally as products are sold and it does not. It’s also supposed to set the product to sold out and it does not. I am forced to manually reduce inventory and set the product to sold out with each sale or risk overselling a product that is no longer available.

Now the shopping cart stalls out when customers add over 4 items. The live chat person tested it, got the same errors, sent it to engineering and their question/answer was for me to check my Google merchant ID (which by the way hasn’t changed since I first set up the store over a year ago). BTW, how is that relevant if the customer never makes it from the SHOPPING CART to the checkout? It’s the SHOPPING CART that has the problem! The shopping cart is a Webs application is it not?

I added the voice mail feature to my site at the top of my sidebar and put a message in my webstore to my customers to contact me if they have issues with the shopping cart and I received a call last night. I ended up having to process the order from PayPal using a manual invoice. I had one customer who instead of using the shopping cart to accumulate her items simply bought five items, one item at a time! What is the purpose of a shopping cart if you can only buy one item at a time!

I don’t know how many sales I’ve lost since only the most dedicated buyers will take the time and effort to notify me of the issues with my site. If Webs is counting on its premium users to fund the free users, Webs MUST put more resources toward finding solutions to the critical issues that are being presented. I have over 1700 items in my store and a nice customer base built, or I would have bailed out already. If Webs can’t fix my store soon, I won’t have a choice.

hello, I wanted to know if it is possible to customize your web store? Maybe giving us the option of changing our layout and feel to it. I also wanted to know if there is a way for us to add on items onto one listing, for example I sell tutus and some of them have headbands sold separately. I want to know if we can add an option at the bottom where they can chose to add the extra item and have the price automatically adjust to their new total which would be the price of the original tutu plus the price of the headband that they added on.

I noticed it doesn’t allow you to add fields for the buyer to fill out for their location.

Let’s say someone purchased an item. How would I know where to ship it? I would receive money, but I would have no mailing address.

Hi Cody! Address entry is handled by our payment partners. You would be able to get the address from the confirmation email, or within your payment accounts, depending on the partner.
