Did you know that there are spiders crawling the Internet? Web spiders, also known as ants, bots, and web crawlers, browse Internet sites in an orderly way. As they crawl, they notice things like words and links, and build up a gigantic table of contents for the Internet.

Search engines employ web spiders to find out what’s out there. Web spiders will have an easier time finding your site–and telling Google®, Yahoo!®, Bing®, and other search engines that your site exists–if your site contains relevant, well-regarded links.  Incorporating a lot of high-quality links helps web spiders find and identify your site, and therefore helps your site achieve higher rankings in search-engine resolts.

Our favorite day of the week is here and that means that it is time for another Example Site Wednesday. This week, Ellie Inspired has caught our attention with their simple and cute website design. ‘Ellie Inspired’ features patterns and tutorials for do-it-yourself dresses. The site creator lovingly describes them as “love clothes” for your special blessing.

Ellie Inspired does a great job of utilizing Webs features including:

Forums to provide a discussion area for members.

With summer ending and the school year coming up (or already here for some), we know that mothers everywhere are going to be busier than ever. That is why this week we are showcasing a website that is dedicated to moms. ‘Moms in the City’ is a community based website where moms can get together, share information, stories, children items and create friendships.

This week’s example site utilizes a lot of great Webs features including:

‘Moms in the City’ is an awesome example of a great site with a great community. One of the best characteristics of the site is the quality and amount of content that they offer to members. All of the information on the website is relevant to the audience and strikes a chord with their visitors, making a visit to the site fun and enjoyable.

Dapperhouse is the go-to place to find one of a kind vintage items and vintage inspired crafts.

At a first glance it is easy to see why we chose Dapperhouse for the example site this week. It utilizes plenty of Webs features including:

–          Etsy Store for easy product listing and Etsy integration
–          Members App to build up their community and encourage visitors to come back with e-mail blasts
–          Blog App to keep in touch and communicate with visitors and members
–          Links to other stores and websites to help search engine ranking

Today I wanted to give you something different in our blog and talk a bit about Bandwidth. Sounds like a scary techy word, but I assure you, it is not as scary as you might think.

OK, let’s break it down…

What is Bandwidth?

Bandwidth is a representation of the amount of things (photos, videos, etc) that your site can serve up to your visitors.  In other words, bandwidth is the rate at which data from your website transfers to your site visitors.

For example, if a visitor views a picture that is 100KB in size, that will use 100kb of your monthly bandwidth.
