National Small Business Week Poster

The second biggest holiday in the Small Business world is coming up in just about a month, and it’s time to start planning how you can get involved. National Small Business Week takes place May 1st -7th here in the U.S., and this year’s theme is “Dream Big, Start Small.”

Created by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) back in 1963, National Small Business Week provides:

“An opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and other from across the nation.” (SBA)

Today at The Washington Post in Washington, D.C., there was a gathering of 14 entrepreneurs pitching their ideas to an esteemed panel of four judges. The event, InnovateHer, was the final Small Business Week event put on by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

The purpose was to identify ways to help women and their families by providing a product, service, or technology.

As I first entered the venue, I could tell that the energy was high. The finalists were buzzing with last minute preparations, and onlookers were anxious to hear their presentations.

Since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week to recognize the hardworking small business owners and entrepreneurs of America.
