This week’s Webs user example site comes to us all the way from Zambia!

Some websites offer splashy products that are easy to photography and are universally exciting to people browsing the web. For the owners of these websites, making a visually appealing website that people will want to browse is a snap (especially when you have a snazzy drag-and-drop sitebuilder…)

For Mutwile Enterprises, the situation is a little different. In their own words, Mutwile is a group of companies involved in the “infrastructure development, fluid/ lubricant handling equipment, and logistics sectors of the Zambian economy.”


Happy Wednesday folks! We’re halfway through the week and that means it’s time for another great example site from a stand-out Webs user.

This week we’re taking a look at the website for RSM Montessori School in southern California. Usually we’ll pick out one thing that a site is doing well and discuss that. However the main feature of today’s site that stands out is how comprehensive it is. The site’s owner is clearly engaged and is using many of the tools available through Webs’ SiteBuilder to create a great experience for visitors.


Today’s example site comes to us from Jacob Jesuthasan, an English photographer. We’re always happy to come across photography portfolio sites from our users; because it’s so easy to add slideshows and galleries, Webs is a great platforms for artists to showcase their work.

The portfolio site of Jacob J Photography is a great example. Jacob chose a very simple template to customize that will really let his photographs shine. The background complements his subjects and style very nicely.


Here in Silver Spring, Maryland it’s a pretty dreary day. So today’s Webs user Example Site post will attempt to add a brighten things up a little by featuring The Beachcat Sail Company of Reno, Nevada!

Beachcat sells customized sailing vessels through their website, and they have done a fantastic job of setting up their web store and supporting sales throughout their site. We’re going to take it piece by piece and talk about what makes it so successful.

Reasons To Believe
Whenever a business decides to sell a product, part of their marketing plan should be coming up with their unique selling proposition, or the best “reasons to believe” for their potential customers. Beachcat shares these right up front on their homepage, citing their outstanding design and performance and their premium materials.


It’s Wednesday afternoon, which means it’s time to look at another great example site built by a Webs user!

This week we’re looking at Neville Hopwood Photography. There are lots of great things about Neville’s site; from big, beautiful images to clean navigation and layout. What we want to focus on today is his use of logos on the About page.

There are a few good ways to toot your own horn on your website and lend a little more credibility to your services. You can showcase actual customer testimonials, you can supply a list of all your satisfied customers, and — perhaps most visually impactful — you can show the logos of all the big names who’ve hired you in the past.


Since we began this week talking about user-friendly website navigation in our How To Make a Website series, it’s only fitting that today’s Webs user Example Site should set, well, a good example.

RentMatrix, an online rental payment solution, has a clean and easy to navigate website that provides plenty of information in an organized fashion. There are a number of things going right with their navigation:

First, there are just 6 options to click on, and only one level of navigation. As we said in Monday’s blog post, multiple navigation levels can be a great way to organize and prioritize information for visitors if you have a lot of it. However, if you can slim down your content to fit on just a primary level, it’s much easier for visitors to see what’s available at a glance.


These days, there is no shortage of ways to make a website. When you make a small business website, professional portfolio, or personal blog, the sky is the limit when it comes to what it can look like. But whether you use a free website builder, a paid professional, or a popular content management system, most websites can still be broken down into the same basic parts.

What are they? Glad you asked.

1. The Background. Some pages will have a specified container for their content with a static background behind, and some will extend their design all the way out to the edges of the browser window:


We’re halfway through the week people, which means it’s time for another edition of Example Site Wednesday.

Today’s site is from a technology support company in Las Vegas, Nevada called Technician Platoon. What stands out most about this site is how well this Webs user has employed layout and organization to convey a good deal of information in an effective way.

We’ve talked before about how imagery can be very important on a website to create visual interest. The exception to that rule, however, is the company whose industry does not lend itself to good imagery. The options in that situation always seem to come down to a site packed with unattractive or irrelevant images, or a small business website that is essentially just a Word document hosted online.

There are lots of articles on the web about the affect that certain colors can have on a website, or how to use color effectively in your branding. But have you ever thought about creating a black and white website?

Today’s example site, the portfolio of performing artist (and Webs user) Róisín Monaghan, uses this technique beautifully to create an elegant look and feel that serves her subject matter well.

One advantage of a mostly black and white website is that it clears out the clutter and allows other design elements to take center stage.
