In keeping with this month’s theme of trends and inspiration, today’s example site was chosen for its great use of a major trend in marketing right now: content marketing.

Content marketing is a strategy that involves creating and sharing various types of content (articles, photos, whitepapers, etc.) with the goal of boosting SEO, driving traffic, building loyalty, and acquiring new leads. If you’ve been reading the blog here for awhile, you’re no doubt already familiar with Content Marketing – not just because we’ve talked about it before, but also because a blog is a great example of content marketing!

Today’s featured Webs user site is Wisconsin Microfarmer, which was built to showcase the lifestyle of a family 5 on a microfarm and to share their experiences, images, and offer a few items for sale. This fantastically robust website has a lot of great elements — the design, well-written content, and use of apps to name a few. For today’s purposes however, we’re going to focus on the site’s use of content marketing.

There are two major benefits of creating and sharing relevant content. Broadly, putting content that potential customers might be searching for out onto the web is a great way to drive search traffic to your website. More narrowly, this flow of content establishes your expertise in your field and can really go a long way toward building your brand and helping you establish a loyal following of potential future customers.

What Wisconsin Microfarmer has done here is the think about a) who their target market is and b) what kinds of information those people might be searching for. To that end, they’ve shared some great photos of their family, lifestyle, and the produce that comes from their farming efforts. They’ve also very smartly created and shared recipes, which people search for regularly and get a lot of traction on social sites like Pinterest right now. Finally, in a move after our own hearts, they regularly post to a helpful blog that is full of keyword-rich content.

Content marketing is an effective and low-cost strategy for driving traffic and leads, and it’s great to see our Webs users taking advantage of it. Keep up the good work, Wisconsin Microfarmer!
