Our discussion of time management for small business owners wouldn’t be complete without addressing the huge time sink that is social media marketing. Because part of being a good Facebook and Twitter administrator is sharing great content with your followers on a regular basis, this part of your marketing program can take up a lot of time.

The good news is, our friends at Pagemodo have created a tool that can reduce the amount of time you spend search for and posting engaging content dramatically. It’s called Pagemodo Posts, and it’s available to all Pagemodo users. It can be used to find, post, and schedule content from around the web to your Facebook and Twitter accounts from the Pagemodo dashboard, or through their new +Post bookmarklet. Here is an excerpt from the announcement of Posts on Pagemodo’s blog last month:

Our series on time management for small businesses is almost finished, so let’s take a minute to talk about the consequences of bad time management. One of which is not being able to find time for personal health and fitness. Many small business owners would like to be more active, but after a full day at the office that often runs into the evening, it’s hard to fit in fitness. And if you weren’t already worried about this, check out this great/alarming infographic featured on Lifehack.org.

Happy Tax Day 2013! Unless you’re still frantically trying to finish up your taxes and get them in the mail — then it might not be so happy. Around midnight last night, a lot of people were asking themselves why it took them until now to do something that they’ve had months to take care of. Enter procrastination.

Very few people really enjoy doing their taxes. But this process can be especially overwhelming for small business owners, many of whom have to file taxes both as an full time employee, and for their small business. Anyone who has ever appreciated and amortized their business assets would not blame you for putting off this arduous task.

Being that it’s Friday, and it’s a warm spring afternoon here in Maryland, it seems appropriate to post an article about a tool that can help eliminate distractions and keep you focused.

As you may have already heard, Google recently threw its hat in the note-taking app ring with a new app called Google Keep. Warning: This app is currently only available on Android devices, so if you’re an iPhone user, you may not want to get attached.

The intent of this new offering is the “Save What’s On Your Mind” by providing a mobile platform on which to keep notes, checklists, inspiring photos, and organize them by priority. So, there you are, out in the world, and you think of something you need to do, see something that inspires you, or are reminded of something to add to your grocery list. You can open up Google Keep, stash it away, and move on with your day. Then later, it’s all collected for you and stored securely in Google Drive, where it syncs across all of your devices.

As a small business owner, sometimes it’s hard not to feel a little overwhelmed, or to get run down by the responsibilities of being the boss. So it’s important to try to make sure you pay attention to your happiness tank and take steps to keep it full. And if you can’t do it for yourself — do it for your business.

Research has shown that happier people are more productive, more engaged in their work, and are better employees all around. According to an article in The Guardian, a team of economists led by Andrew Oswald has shown this in a recent study. They stated that “we find that human happiness has large and positive causal effects on productivity, positive emotions appear to invigorate human beings, while negative emotions have the opposite effect.”

Our series on time management for small business continues today with a look at a very cool productivity app that is gaining recognition across the web. I first heard of RescueTime from a co-worker here at Webs who says that it’s incredibly helpful — now that he’s gotten over the shock of seeing how much time he actually spends on email every day.

About RescueTime
The purpose of the RescueTime application is to help you see where you are spending all of your time — the good, the bad, and the ugly. You can measure your time automatically on the computer, and also manually track your time spent doing other things. The application, downloaded from the internet, hangs out in the background on your computer and tracks your time spent on email, on various websites, and even on documents to help you understand how your time is being spent in reality — not in your own [possibly rose-colored] vision of yourself.
