Today’s example site comes to us from Jacob Jesuthasan, an English photographer. We’re always happy to come across photography portfolio sites from our users; because it’s so easy to add slideshows and galleries, Webs is a great platforms for artists to showcase their work.

The portfolio site of Jacob J Photography is a great example. Jacob chose a very simple template to customize that will really let his photographs shine. The background complements his subjects and style very nicely.

Jacob’s home page is where we’ll focus our attention today. Because the homepage is often the only page visitors will see – before hitting the back button – if they’ve come to your site through a search engine, it’s important that you grab their attention right away. Jacob does this by using a nearly full-page rotating image gallery.

Under the eye-catching gallery, visitors will find the three areas of the site Jacob wants them to visit most. He has a number of different pages available in his navigation bar at the top of the page, but he’s called out these pages where he would really like to direct his traffic. They are his gallery, web store, and blog.

Great job Jacob, we really enjoyed your work!

It is for sure a beautiful and compelling homepage. I wonder what the webmaster’s strategy is though, from the perspective of optimization for search.
