A very popular question has surfaced after the release of the new SiteBuilder3: How to add various widgets to my website.

What is a widget?

In the context of website building, a widget is a small application, or a component that allows a user to perform a specific function or access a service.  A few popular widgets include:  chat boxes, badges, clocks, countdowns, weather feeds, news feeds, rss feeds, and more.

How to add a widget?

1. To get started, click on the layout tab at the bottom of the Sitebuilder and select the Custom Html module.

2. Drag the selected module to the spot on your website where you would like the widget to “live”.

3.  Open a new browser window. Determine the type of widget you would like to add to your website and search for available widget code via your favorite search engine.

There are a lot of available online resources specifically dedicated to providing widgets. For example http://www.widgetbox.com/widgets/ provides an extensive collection of widgets you can add to your website for free.

4. Once you have selected your widget and customized it (if this option is available), copy provided HTML code and paste it into the HTML module you have already added to your website. To get started double-click on the module you have added to paste your HTML code.

5. Click “Save Changes” and you are done!

Does your website utilize a lot of widgets? Post below for all to see as an example of what is possible.

Those widget features are great but I LOVED the Webs Widget Bank because it featured great widgets for Webs sites. Plus all widgets on Widgetbox have a get widget button at the bottom. Why not keep the widget bank?

I really like this module but I encountered some problems with it in my template. Going into detail I discovered that a closing div tag was missing. When I added one line ( echo ”; ) to the end of the mod_social_widgets.php file the issue was resolved. Don’t know if this workaround will work for all module and template settings but I think this should be checked in a future version.

    with widget owners.
I would love to add my chat widget to your bank.

I agree that the widget bank was great! I loved being able to have the shoutbox for my role play sites. I can’t find them anywhere else because they were for webs.com! I can use the html mode, but I like having the option of clicking on the premade widgets! And there’s no more sidebar!!! :(

I love the new SiteBuilder, but the only problem is, I can’t add shoutboxes :( I have a lot of roleplaying sites and I think roleplaying would be easier and more fun if we still used shoutboxes. Can you please bring back shoutboxes?

Can you guys make it possible for me to post more widgets on my page using HTML? Every time I try and get HTML on my page, it says I need a subscription plan, and that really annoys me. The main focus for my website is to use a lot of HTML stuff, and I find it annoying that I only get a limit. Even when I try to delete old widgets, it STILL says the same thing. Recently, I signed a petition with 400 people who use Webs.com, and they have supported my cause all the way. I’m just BEGGING you guys to do this for us, because there’s no need for things like this to be happening.

Hi there. I’m sorry you’re frustrated with the HTML module. While we totally understand your feelings on the issue, making HTML a premium feature was a choice that we made in order to protect our users and their customers.
