Webs Makeover – Experiencing some bugs?

We have been working on Webs’ new look for months and are excited about finally being able to reveal it to you. We hope that once you have browsed around, you will agree that the
updated site is easier to navigate and allows you to quickly access your site building tools.

Unfortunately, just like with any major change, a few bugs slipped by us. While we are working around the clock to resolve them, we wanted to give you a quick overview of what we have been noticing.

Why was my site so slow for the past couple of days?

As you can imagine, a redesign of this magnitude requires a lot of changes that had to be pushed live at once. This meant that during the launch the connection to Webs was impacted. Some users were not even able to access Webs. This is only a temporary issue and should clear up shortly.

Why am I not able to see the Editing Toolbar?

When you go to edit your page, you should see a toolbar with the regular editing options, like the image above. If you don’t see this toolbar, please be sure to clear your browser. Click here to learn how to clear your browser cache.

If after you clear your browser caches, you continue to have the issue, please post your site address & the name of the page you are attempting to edit to the following support topic: http://support.webs.com/webs/topics/edit_page_options_not_showing_fwb_11762-66g84

What happened to the Sidebars?

We have streamlined the process of editing your sidebars.  To access the sidebar manager all you have to do is put your mouse over the sidebar area. Hovering over the sidebar area will reveal the new editing options that allow you to enable/manage sidebars.

If you previously turned off the sidebars, and if hovering over them doesn’t show any managing options, then please report your template to the support team. In the mean time, you can access the sidebar manager directly by going to: http://members.webs.com/s/sidebars/index

My Pages appear cut-off or incomplete

The redesign has impacted some templates by causing them to display incorrectly. In particular, we have seen repeat comments on this issue coming from users that have the Circles template.  We have notified our engineers to work on this template. If you are using another template, please post your information to the following support topic: {LINK}

If you are experiencing issues that we didn’t address in this blog post, please don’t hesitate to contact our support team at http://support.webs.com. When reporting an issue, it is very important that you provide as much detailed information as possible, and always remember to include your site URL, browser type and version, and a screenshot of what you are seeing. If you are unsure of your browser type and version, simply go to www.supportdetails.com.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.

Webs Makeover – Experiencing some bugs?

Stephanie-Rose Sermon on December 22, 2010

I’ve so far found that the speed issue hasn’t effected me if I use Google Chrome. However, by using that particular browser I’m unable to edit ANY of my site’s pages; as soon as I go into Site Builder, the toolbar (with Content Box etc.) gets covered up. Yes, covered up. It’s still there, but my page moves upwards to cover it so that I can only see and click on the top half of the link directly above the usual toolbar.

If I use Firefox, the toolbar issue is gone but the speed issue is present.

Is there any way to get Chrome working with the new layout?

Since the update:
I had music on both my webs websites. Since the update, I couldn’t delete or change the music on the page. I kept getting a error message, saying “error, refresh the page”. I did several time but still couldn’t fix the music. The only way I was to take the music off was to delete my home page and make a new one. Even with the new home page I can’t add music onto it. I keep getting the previous error. Plus, something different. When I want to add a picture to a page or paragraph, the new picture is always placed at the top of the page above the banner and not in the paragraph I want. I can only copy it, go back and start editing over again without publishing, then paste the picture onto the paragraph.
Thanks, hope these bugs get fixed.

You picked a hell of a time to go live for us Ecommerce sites! Been best to have waited until the new year. Seems like you should have went Beta with the free sites and worked out the problems first?

Where is your “Publish” or “Save” button now ?

This new template is so difficult to use and view.

I can edit only on the lower bottom half now, which
is so much more difficult.

@Tham: The publish button still appears in the same place it did prior to the change. (Look towards the top right hand corner you will see a green publish button), IF you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our support team at http://support.webs.com.

The new Webs is great, there is just one major bug. I use Google Chrome because it is a lot faster than the rest, but the bar that has: “Add a Context Box”, “Link”, “Font”, etc. has been cut off completely, but only works in my Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, So I must switch browsers every time.

@island22horsepark: You can access the blog from the Dashboard (the first page you see when you log in) and if you are not logged on there is a blog link located on the top right hand corner.

@Jay: Please look at the information presented in this blog post regarding the toolbar.

Hi guys, I noticed in your homepage that you are showcasing new templates/designs. However, in the site builder, I can’t see any new templates to work on. Will the list be updated with new ones?

I also thought it would have been better to make these changes after the holidays, as some folks surely use their websites to sell things. If they have a hard time editing pages, they may lose sales. I know of a few people who said the same thing, they can’t add new pictures or items for sale.

There is still a contact us app, but no contact us page. To get one of those pages you have to start a new site just to get one. it was not listed under pages.

@Charlie: Not sure what you are saying as we did not change any settings for the ContactMe app.

Justin on December 22, 2010

@island22horsepark at the top of the website in the main navigation area just to the left of the “Manage Pages” tab you will see 3 icons stacked. The very top magnifying glass icon is a quick link to view your site. Hope this helps.

I half to agree some of it is pretty dark, but over all nice job, would of like more drop down windows for the different size items i am selling. For free web sites it is ok, but for selling and attracting paying coustmers you need alot of improvements on the store side.

I am also very frusterated! I am using the “circles” template and have been for a couple years so I do not want to change my template but what a crappy time to not have my website up and running!!!! No one can buy anything or see my girl’s consultant listings. I’ve gotten several emails “letting me know” that my website isn’t working. SO FRUSTRATING!! I agree with Eric…wouldn’t have this been better do do after the new year instead of messing with holiday sales???

I’m still modifying my site and found out that I cannot adjust the size of the header (not custom logo) after the makeover, unlike before there was a move logo button wherein I could change the height of the main logo. Will it be back?

Anyway I like the site new look.

Ok, I have created four websites through webs.com, and I love it.
The one thing I have used for all website is the Circles Template, and yes all my sites appear to be cut off. I really hope it gets fixed soon, because it ruins the image of the site.

Thanks.

I’ve been having some problems with webs on my net book.
Like when I go to page editor I can’t see the add content box button or other buttons like font, size, text color and other buttons so I was wondering if you could fix that bug because using webs on the net book is very handy.

Justin and webs thanks! I like the mag glass. that was what I needed to have at my mouse click.

Still not finding the blog link though. I didnt realize how often I pop over her to read it. lol It is definitely not on the right side on any pages logged on or now. hmmmm.

gonna go look again.
Other than that I have had no other issues yet.

I do NOT like the new WEBS. Each page of my site has a different background & I am very frustrated that I can’t change or add a background to new pages. I am a paying premium member for a couple of years now which expires in the new year. If this problem is not remedied ASAP I will be forced to move my site elsewhere. Also in the few weeks before the change I had trouble uploading pictures, a lot of the pictures are cut off, never had that problem before.

Yes, It’s been slow, but another thing, those little pop-ups used for loging in to edit or to add things like shout boxes are appiring in the corner. I’ve been abil to work past a few, but I can’t get any add-ons. I hope you guys fix this!
Also, some of the buttons that you use to edit your pages are disappiring, and my shout boxes are to. Though, the shout boxes where disapiring before the redo…

It seems that I am having the worst time here, for the first time ever. I created this new site with a new email address and I have been trying to confirm my Webs ID and it won’t send me the confirmation email to do so. I looked all over the help section but could not find an answer to my problem. It is not my provider because I have other sites and have never had a problem receiving that confirmation email through the other email addresses. When I try to send an email to support it just keeps telling me that it can’t find my email address. I have never had such a hard time trying to get help with anything in my life. I am thinking this may be a site glitch. That is why I am posting it here. I do not know what else to do. I would really like to get started on my site, but can’t do anything really until I find some way to confirm my Webs ID. Can anyone help with this or is this indeed a site glitch? Is anyone else having trouble receiving their Webs ID Confirmation Email?

@Rebecca: I just sent you 2 emails (1 with your password reminder and the other one for your WebsID confirmation). Please double check your spam folder as some providers sometimes incorrectly file such emails there.
