Out with the old…

Some of you may notice a few differences here on the blog. We have updated our blog URL, and made a few tweaks along the way.

You can now find us at blog.webs.com. Those of you who subscribe to our RSS feed will want to update this information to continue keeping up with the latest and greatest happenings at Webs. You will find that the old comments are missing, unfortunately this is a result of the transfer. Think of it as a fresh start!

Turning over this new leaf also brings some visual enhancements and some session time-out improvements, (if you don’t notice this, it’s because it’s working!). You can still access the blog through all the same channels and we’ll still be bringing the great updates, feature launches, announcements and contests that you all come for, so stay tuned!

What do you guys and gals think? Let us know in the comments.

    @thewebsteam–

    Despite the fact that the main bulk of people have said they dont like the new blog. So! What you are saying is, ONLY WHAT WEBS WANTS MATTERS!!! Clowns! I am not renewing my contract in 41 days or my pro email, nor will I be using this blog again, you disgust me!

    @Dene: I can see how change can be difficult, however we felt that this blog was a necessary in order for us to have a more robust communication channel with our customers.

    What do you guys and gals think?

    My sentiments are with dene on this one, why bother to ask what we think if you are not going to listen? it seems Webs are going with this new blog irrespective of what we think, forcing changes on people will do no one any good and that includes Webs.

    How do I create a feature that allows my clients to upload files (msword, xls, jpeg) and send to me. Also, I would like to send them files as well (person to person).

    Just telling you Webs, this is the first time I have visited your blog and I am shocked at how you don’t say, even lie about, that you are gonna fix the problems. I didn’t notice the change, but apparently people like dene and Ian have. And my my guess it wasn’t for the better. Please fix whatever it is for the people aginst this, and make Webs more user-friendly.

    @webs – honestly its not that much to ask to have the avatars back, and to not have to double type in our info. If you could change those two small things (and perhaps the size of the font) then we would all be happy. Im afraid that if you dont it looks like you will lose the most active members around here (including myself) as its not an easy environment to continue “communication channels”. The experienced active members on here contribute just as much if not more than webs staff when it comes to fixing bugs and giving advice – so i strongly advice you don’t just disregard them.

    Apart from that rant, i would like to know why every second day the community tab on my webs account directs me to a different blog. It keeps switching back between the old and then new – very confusing and i know i am not the only one this is happening to.

    Dene – this blog is so user unfriendly i wont be around here much either from now on, but we know each others URL’s so check in from time to time ok brother? xx

    @Sapp: Thank you for reporting the bug of rotating blogs. I will pass it on to be double checked.

    As for the request for larger fonts & Images….I will put that in as well.

      @Sapph:The different look between the open page and the page within our community tab is due to the way we needed to integrate the 2 databases. I will double check to see if adding the comments link is a possibility.

    really getting blog-ed down :(

    Have now set guestbook to members only which isnt really what I wanted to do due to consistent spam-ing. Any word on catching those little spammy devils or working out away to block their demon comments?

    @Sapph: As promised earlier I checked on the option of adding avatars and other issues you mentioned. Avatars are not possible to do without adding an extra sign-up page (because of the 2 database issues). Also the font size of this new blog is identical to the font size we used previously. We kept it for consistency reasons as this is the font that we use all over our site. As for adding the number of comments on the blog, this is something that has been added to the future work-flow of the designer.

    By the way, you might have to update your Edit Help button.

    Heres the URL for you to check it out. http://members.webs.com/MembersB/EditPage/help.jsp?page=PageBuilder-FAQ

    The reason I noticed it isn’t updated is because I had clicked on “How do you add a cursor effect? Disable right click?” and when it told me to click on the “Page Properties” button, I looked and there is no such thing.

    1. Can you please update the “Edit Help” button?

    2. Can you tell me where I can add effects and disable right-click, if there IS a way.

    @Irina – looking at the old blog the name of the author of the comment is easier to read, if the size is the same then it must be because it used to be in bold. But again without avatars i just dont like being around here, its too hard to sift through the pointless posts and its depressing not seeing familiar faces. It’s just not a community here anymore. Good luck with the new blog, i wont be around much.

    @Irina–

    Yes the size of the font is the same but what about us that used and needede the avatars for our first sight of input? Us(vusually) impaired people really need help not hinderence. Surely avatars were created for two things.1. Unique on line identity. 2. To help even the playing field out and allow as many people as possible to recognise and comminicate easily. Those people that have bad eye sight, those many people that do not have English as thier first language, all you have done is allienate people agianst webs.com, hindered members communication (by causing a moderation lag and by taking away the rich text environment you have made the place, staile, stagnet and boring. All this for what? Was it something the members asked for? NO! Has anybody ever complained and the blog layout? NO! So! We ask, why was it changed? It was changed because webs.com felt like changing it, with out asking anybody’s ideas or feelings on the matter!! Again I ask, does that sound like good customer relations? A good communication ethic? No! Non of the above, do not patronise me by saying ‘sorry you feel that way’ Do something about it! I used the avatars to loacate people quickly, then I struggle to read the blog (but thats life) by taking the avatars away from me all you did was make my life much more difficult. You should stand back and listen to yourself, really just listen to yourself with impartiallity. You changed this members area with out any consultation with the members, then when the members voice is raised against the changes you decide to just steam roll over the situation any way. What company would just do what it likes when it likes with no effort of meeting the concerns of its customers? I will tell you what type, the dead, buried and bankrupt type, thats what type!!! I f you had any decent customer ethic you would consult with the members to at least meet a happy medium, not just come out and say ‘ we can not intergrate this or that with the new blog and data bases’ You found time to change it before (with out asking our thoughts) so find time to do it now! The man hours and cost should be your cross to bare and your leston to learn for the terible way you have treated us. Also your comment regarding the font size just shows the webs lack of thought and consideration toward the handicapped, this would just about be bareable if you at least realised your error upon being told but you dont, you still spout thoughtless diatribe and insensitivity toward those less off than yourseves…….As I said, REALLY, JUST REALLY STAND BACK AND IMPARTIALY LISTEN TO YOURSELVES!!!!

    Sapph/Dene…guys, I must say I’ll be sorry to miss our informative/friendly/helpfull banter, but I agree with all your comments and this will be my FINAL post and visit to this blog.

    I will continue with my WEBS sites but as far as I’m concerned this blog has lost the community/technical “feedback & advice” spirit and if I want pointless chatter then I will sign up to one of those “other” social networking blurbing networks….not!!!!!!!!

    Take care guys…..may chat in the future when WEBS sort their sh*t out!!!!!!!!!
