Check this out

Today we launched a new members’ home page.  Why a new Member Homepage?  Good question.   The new page displays the information a site owner needs to see immediately and here’s a run down of what that information is:

Account type.  Free? Ad Free? Starter? Enhanced? Pro?  Domain? It’s right here.  If you have more than one account, this is very useful.

Site Members.  How many?  You’ll know.  Need to manage your members?  Easy, there’s a link directly to that page.  This feature will become more important as more members join your site.

New Photo Uploader

Do you have 20, 30, 40 or 50 vacation photos that you need to upload?  Or family photos? Or business photos?  Or any kind of photos?  Yes?  Well then, head off to your photo gallery and try out the new multi-photo uploader.  We’ve tested it and it looks pretty good.  Give it a whirl and let me know what you think.

New Links app

Good Afternoon!

As you are getting ready to enjoy your weekend, I have just one question for you: Have you discovered the new Links page?

Links is a brand new, really easy way to create and organize a page of links on your site.  With a simple click, you can a website url, name, and description. The links app does all the rest, even creating a thumbnail (mini image) for the site you are linking to.  You can also easily organize links into categories.

Don’t think you need a Links page? Think again. Studies have shown website that
have relevant links displayed usually experience increased traffic through direct clicks and improved search engine rankings.

August Updates

Good Morning Everyone,

August is going to be a very busy month for Freewebs. Last week’s big launch of Site Designer was just the beginning! Here is a quick overview of what you can expect to see:

  • Wiki Pages – Is now live! Get your Site Members to contribute content to your site by adding Wiki pages.  To try out a wiki, just add a new page to your site and select ‘wiki’.  This page features:
    1. Add multiple wikis to your site
    2. Each wiki can have an unlimited number of subpages with nested navigation
    3. Content History shows you changes that have happened and lets you revert back to any version at any time
  • New Links App – Now that Wiki is out, we’ll be releasing our next app soon.  It’s called “Links” and it’s a really easy way to create an organized page of links on your site.  It even auto-generates site thumbnails.
  • Calendar Updates – We’re updating calendars with several of the features you’ve requested including:
    1. Add recurring events
    2. Add multi-day events
    3. Rich text editing for the calendar description and event descriptions.
  • Rich text editing –  We are working on giving you an enhancement that many of you have requested: ability to add bold, italic and colored text, pictures and more in app descriptions.  We plan to add this to all App description pages and some additional places as well.
  • Username Changer – The name says it all. You are now able to change your username (for a small fee) directly from your account. You can find this new feature under My Account -> Advanced Settings -> Change User Name.

Site Designer

Hi Everyone,

We are pleased to announce Site Designer is now live! If you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, Site Designer is a brand new tool that allows template customization and site-wide design changes all prior to publishing.

There are tons of things you can do quickly and easily with the new Site Designer. Here are a few features which you might like to explore:

  • Change & Preview Template – Browse through all available templates and quickly see how your website looks with a new layout before publishing it live.
  • Adjust Background Colors – Now it’s easier then ever to change background colors and insert background images, making the template you love even more customizable.
  • Edit Site Title, Tagline & Footer – The new tool lets you easily change your Site Title, Tagline and Footer.  It also allows you to hide your titles for those of you who have a title in your custom header. (We will also be adding title fonts, colors, and styling in the future)
  • Upload Logo – Now you can adjust the website template even further by uploading your company logo or a favorite photo. Remember, it’s a great way to make the current templates unique.

What’s great is that you can make and preview all the changes you want prior to publishing them to your site.  Ready? Check it out here:  (Note: This feature is for users who use our sitebuilder.  HTML only accounts cannot use this feature).

July Updates

July has arrived!  This month, we’ll be working away and enjoying the summer heat.  A few things to watch out for in this month:

  • New templates.  You’ll see a few live this week and more later this month.
  • Calendar upgrades.  Recurring events and events spanning multiple days, we’re working on both of those along with a few other requests.
  • Design changes to your site. Sometimes you just want see how your site will look with a new template before you select it.  Same goes for a background image or a site picture/logo.  We agree.  One of the developers has been working on an upgrade for “Edit Titles & Footer”.   After some rigorous testing, we’ll hand it over to you all to test.  We will need your help on this one!
  • Other stuff.  There’s always work to be done, bugs to be fixed and little things that we can improve and we’ll be working on that too.

New Templates

It’s been a while coming and you all have been waiting.  Here you have two new templates: Outdoors Modern and Enlightened.  Throughout the summer, new templates will roll out.  Think of them as a little something to look forward to as the summer heat arrives.  You can view the new templates here.

Before July 4th, we’ll have a few enhancements for you.  Two that I know will be ready are integrating Picnik with Photo Galleries and the ability to purchase privacy protection after you’ve purchased a domain (many people have asked TechSupport for this) and there will be a variety of small things rolling out throughout the week.

New Calendars

Im pleased to announce the newest addition to our Apps: Calendars.  Calendars are a quick and easy way to add events to your site via an online calendar.  Events can be browsed in multiple views (month, week, day, and all) and you can even enable commenting so your visitors can leave a message on an event (perfect for RSVP’s).

Let us know what you think.  Feel free to post here as you always do.  You can also discuss things on my Discussion Forum.

Remember, Calendars is still in beta so it may still have some kinks.  Let us know if you discover any bugs.  We will continue to improve the product but wanted to get it out to you quickly so you guys can begin using it.

June Updates

June has arrived!  And, with June, what to look forward to at Freewebs?  Calendars!  Background images for Web Stores, Photo Galleries, and Videos!   Plus, a few new templates.

Calendars.  Have you been looking to include a calendar on your site, maybe for your school, scout group or family reunion site?  Maybe for your business?  If so, take a look at the calendar that’s in development (meaning not yet completed).   Right now, the functionality is fairly basic: multiple views (month, week, day, all events) and add, edit, and delete events.  That’s the basic framework and we’ll be adding more functionality throughout the summer.  In today’s usability sessions, the calendar performed well.  We’re excited.  There’s a basic calendar on my site so you see what it looks like.  [Calendar link]

Hey all,

Based on feedback from users, we’ve added a few more webstore enhancements as follows:

  • Categories can now be ordered – You can now arrange your categories in whatever order you please
  • Categories now have descriptions – You can now add description text for each category
  • Set a default sort – You can now set a default way to sort your items in your “Store Settings”.  Choose from options like “Newest first” or Price: low to high.
  • Your visitors can sort – If you have more than 10 items, a new dropdown appears that allows your visitors to sort a store or category by the different sorting options.  For an example, visit who has a lot of items in his store:)

We also fixed a few things that were causing a little instability with stores.  Hope you enjoy the new features.

PS – please keep your comments constructive.  For those of you who do not know, this blog is for the purpose of allowing Freewebs members to talk to each other as well as provide us with feedback.  If you have feedback, we would appreciate if it were constructive, for example, if you hit a bug, would be great to know where and how you are hitting it.  Finally, we don’t permit the advertising or mentioning of competitive services as people have abused this in our history.  We do allow some hosting ads on the site because those generate revenue for us.
