Freewebs Launches a Widget Bank

Freewebs, the free website creation site, announced its new Widget Bank as an additional set of tools for its users.

The Widget Bank offers unlimited access to thousands of widgets to be added to users sites, without having to copy, cut or paste code. Selected widgets are added directly from the Widget Bank to users' sites, similar to frontpage widget additions, like Netvibes or Pageflakes. Some current widget selections include games, clocks, RSS feed readers, maps, and video players. Freewebs has partnered with companies including YouTube, Widgetbox, RockYou, Miniclip, Gizmoz, Craigslist and more.

The Widget Bank is accessed through the Site Manager, once you've chosen to edit an existing page or create a new page. The Widget Box icon appears in the WYSIWIG editor, along with the other editing tools.

This offering is similar to Facebook's recent Platform release, opening up the community for other networks to create widgets for user integration. Providing the widgets from an on-site directory makes them more accessible for users and easily added to accounts. In a similar concept, Widgetbox offers direct addition of widgets to select social networks with its "Get it Now" feature, and has just announced its new Remote Gallery for providing its widgets for direct access within third party networks.
